Multisport MINISTRIES Race Team

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. (1 Corinthians 9:25)

Founder & Board of Directors
Orange County, CA

Erik founded Multisport MINISTRIES because of incredible changes that occurred in his life once he submitted to the Lord. With Jesus as his guide, he discovered the confluence of struggle, faith and hope within the body, mind and soul of a triathlete.

Charlie Patten
Advisory Board Member
Owner Revolution 3 Triathlons

Born in Hartford, Connecticut, Charlie spent his childhood moving around the country from army base to army base. He graduated from high school in 1998, spent his summer mowing greens at a golf course and shipped out for Army National Guard boot camp in September of that same year. “The day my father retired, he swore me into the Army National Guard,” recalled Patten. “Seeing as I am not that smart and lack an inner drive to produce a quality report on economics, I bypassed the whole college thing. I spent 7 years in the Army National Guard and have been in the world of government contracting ever since.” Charlie started Rev3 Triathlons in 2008 and they held their first event in 2009 increasing the number of high quality events ever since. www.rev3tri.com

Director of Chaplains & Board of Directors
Sandusky, Ohio

Pastor John is Sr. Pastor of New Life Church in Sandusky, Ohio and at the age of 57 he has been a Sr. Pastor for 27 years with 2 triathlon seasons under his belt. His first season, started with an Oly, graduating to a 70.3 and finished with Rev3's 140.6 Ironman at Cedar Point.  After developing hip osteoarthritis, he's completed two more Oly's and a 70.3. Pastor John says, "I am looking forward to hip surgery so I can continue doing full triathlons and not have to go the aquabike route! I love the triathlon lifestyle. It helps me stay on top of every other area of my life and I'm able to inspire others with my later in life accomplishments. I also love encouraging people and had the privilege of being a Last Place Finisher in one of Rev3's races. (Quassy '11)" A man who loves a good adventure, Pastor John states that his foundation scripture verse for life is Philippians 4:13.

Triathlons provided me the opportunity to lose 80 lbs, walk closer with God and meet some awesome men. I pray that through Multisport MINISTRIES we can help men make small changes in their lives that will have large impact on them and those around them.  "Wealth and honor come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all." (1 Chronicles 29:12)  Visit Scott's blog at www.scottdarchibald.com

Board of Directors
Houston, TX
I identify myself first as a Christian (favorite verse Philippians 4:13), second as a husband, and third as a father.  By profession, I am an orthopedic surgeon specializing in shoulder surgery.  My avocation is endurance sports.  I started in endurance sports at age 34 after gaining more weight than my wife during her pregnancy with our daughter.  It started simply by running and working out, but as an obsessive, goal-oriented person, quickly grew into marathon running.  After having an overuse injury while marathon training, I started cycling to stay in shape.  By cross training on the bike, I was feeling better and getting injured less.  This naturally evolved into triathlon (I had to learn how to swim).  I really enjoy the challenge of longer races and have done a few 70.3’s. Current personal bests include a 2:59 marathon at Houston 2010, a 4:52 IM 70.3 at Galveston Lone Star 2009, and a 9:55 IM at Ironman Florida 2009.

In the last couple of years I have shifted my focus from athletic competition to the ministry side of Multisport Ministries. I still enjoy racing, but my top priority has become ministering to men about priorities.  In encourage men in the Houston area to keep triathlon in perspective and focus on the real “race that has been set before us” (Hebrews 12:1).

Triathlon training helps me clear my mind after a hard day of work. During my training sessions I talk with God about the harsh realities I witness each day as a police officer and pray for wisdom and insight to help show his love to others.
